CEBU CITY, Philippines — A man was killed while he was lying asleep on the sidewalk along D. Jakosalem Street of Barangay Parian earlier today. The victim, identified as “William,” a public utility jeepney (PUJ) dispatcher was shot dead at around 5:40 AM, September 17.
Initial investigations showed that the victim was approached by a still unidentified gunman who shot him several times – with wounds on his neck and chest. The assailant then fled the scene by riding a jeepney. Three empty bullet shells were found at the crime scene. Police are still looking into what gun was used in the killing.
William is said to be a well known dispatcher around the area with some residents claiming that he was an ex-convict, an angle the police are looking into as a possible motive for the crime.
This is the third PUJ dispatcher killed in just a week. Alexander Lastimoso was gunned down by a certain “Em-em” along Bonifacio Street last September 13. And on September 9, Marvin Baylon Anabia was shot along Salinas Drive, Lahug.
