President Duterte “Ordered” Loot Ambush [UPDATE]

MANILA, Philippines — [UPDATE] Presidential Spokesperson Panelo says that President Duterte did not order ambush of Daanbantayan Mayor Loot. He clarified that what the President meant by the line “Inambush kita, buhay ka pa” was “Inambush ka na, buhay ka pa.”

After jokingly tagging former Local Government Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II as the mastermind behind the ambush of former Daanbantayan Mayor Vicente Loot in 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, September 17, revealed that it was him who ordered for Loot to be ambushed.

In an oath-taking ceremony of new presidential appointees in Malacañang, President Duterte had this to say during his speech, “General Loot, p***** i** mo, nanalo pa ng mayor. In-ambush kitang animal ka, nabuhay pa rin.”

Loot, a retired General, escaped death when he and his family were ambushed by still unidentified gunmen at a wharf in Daanbantayan, Cebu. President Duterte named him as one of the five police generals who are allegedly protecting drug lords in the country. Loot has repeatedly denied these allegations and have asked PDEA and NBI for help in clearing his name.

Loot was succeeded by his stepson Sun Shimura as the town’s mayor during the May 2019 local elections.

Below is the official statement of Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo on President Duterte’s remarks:
