CEBU, Philippines – The teacher who allegedly assaulted one of her students is set to face charges. Authorities from the Pardo Police Station have filed a formal case against Mae Letigo after the parents of the student were determined to sue the said teacher.
“Wala man sila (parents and teacher) nagka-settle sad unya kursonada man ang pamilya unya if di nila na i-file, ug di sila kursonada, di na namo i-file, pero kursonada man sila,” said Police Major John Kareen Escober, Pardo Police Station chief in a phone interview with The Freeman.
Letigo, a 39-year-old native of Negros Oriental, is charged with the Violation of the Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection Against Child Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act. She has yet to comment on the said charges nor regarding the incident.
Letigo was arrested last Thursday, Feb. 27 after allegedly hurting one of her students, a 4-year-old pupil from a private school. Authorities said that Letigo grabbed the student by his mouth for failing to answer his test paper. The boy suffered an injury in the mouth according to a medical certificate submitted to the police.
