COVID-19 Cases in PH Doubles in 24 Hours, Now 20

MANILA, Philippines – In just 24 hours, the Philippines has recorded 10 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total count of infected to 20. In a press conference on Monday, March 9, the Department of Health (DOH) announced that the 10 new cases were results from tests done on samples taken from March 6-8. The department has yet to release more information on the infected patients as of writing.

Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that DOH is now conducting contact tracing.

In a statement, DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III emphasized the need for individuals being contacted by the department to isolate themselves to prevent potential spread of the virus. “Rest assured that the Department of Health (DOH) is maximizing all channels… to immediately identify and isolate, if needed, those who had contact with confirmed cases,” Duque said.
