MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed circulating reports of the Philippines’ second COVID-19 death. In a statement released to the media, DOH says that the second death is patient with ID PH35 and was admitted at the Manila Doctors Hospital in Manila City.
The patient was a 67-year-old female. She was only confirmed to have COVID-19 today, March 11, together with 15 other people. March 11 saw the highest increase in reported infections in the country.
The total number of infected in the Philippines is now at 49 with 2 recorded deaths. The first death, which was also the first reported death outside of mainland China, was a Chinese male.
DOH has advised the public to practice proper coughing etiquette, social distancing, and constant hand washing to prevent the further spread of the virus.
